How to identify an SSP name from GUID or vice versa in SharePoint 2007?

When you have multiple SSP’s, did you ever wonder which GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) belongs to which SSP? or what is the GUID for this SSP?

Well, I wondered this so many times and did some research on this. There are bunch of scripts available online which you run to get a nice report with SSP’s and their  GUID’s. But here is much easier way (This is my thinking),

Just pop the REGEDIT and navigate to

\\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\12.0\Search\Applications

Under applications, you see a bunch of  GUID’S. These are the GUID’S for each SSP, you should have one GUID for each SSP in your farm,

Expand any GUID, and click on CatalogNames and you will notice that there is key called Display Name, This is your SSP name.

Thats the SSP name and the GUID it is listed under, is its GUID.

Bingo, you found your SSP with its GUID!
